British research shows that "magic material" graphene can repair itself
Graphene is a popular material that has brought Nobel Prize to researchers. It has a variety of exotic properties. A recent study in the UK has also found that this "magic material" also has the ability to repair itself. Graphene is the world's thinnest material with only one layer of carbon atoms. The University of Manchester scientist Novoselov and colleagues won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for being the first to make graphene in the world. A research team reported the latest findings in a new issue of the British journal Nanocommunication. To further explore the electrical properties of graphene, Novoselov et al. attempted to keep the thin layers of graphene in constant contact with the metal, a process that created many holes in the thin layer of graphene. The researchers observed these holes with an electron microscope and found that metal atoms could be embedded in the holes, but if there are extra carbon atoms around the holes, these carbon atoms will "catch" out the metal atoms, embed themselves in the holes, and with graphite. The original carbon atoms in the thin layer of the olefin are connected to each other, so that the entire thin layer of graphene is repaired as before. The researchers believe that this phenomenon indicates that graphene has a good self-healing ability, which will increase the application value of graphene and further broaden the stage of this "magic material" display.
