Recently, China’s shoemaking industry has made substantive breakthroughs in its participation in the formulation of international standards. On November 18th, at the annual ISO/TC216 conference held in Madrid, Spain, the drafting initiative of the National Shoemaking Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC305) on the “Antibacterial Performance of Footwear Liners, Linings, and Inner Pads” was drafted. The committee approved and became the leader of the standard; undertakes the development of seven ISO standards; at the same time, the China Standards Committee (SAC/TC305) became an observer of CEN/TC309. This is the first time that China has participated in the development of international shoemaking standards and has become a leader.

Participation in the formulation of technical standards is also part of the process of participating in the formulation of rules in relevant fields and grasping the right to speak. Therefore, this major breakthrough has inspired the leather industry. China, as a world leader in shoemaking, has an annual output of more than 10 billion pairs of shoes, accounting for more than 50% of the world's footwear industry. This is an indisputable fact, but it is inconsistent with the status of major powers that China is in the international right to speak. Because of the weakness, Zhang Shuhua, chairman of the China Leather Association, has repeatedly called for active participation in the formulation of international trade rules and international standards and for the Chinese leather industry to win the right to speak internationally.

Qi Xiaoxia, secretary general of the National Standardization Committee for Shoemaking, believes that this breakthrough has a landmark significance: “Now, many international technical trade barriers are implemented or implemented using European standards or international standards as thresholds. In the past, we have never participated in international The formulation of the standards and the right of discourse are in the hands of Others. This breakthrough has several aspects. First, China became the initiator and leader of international standards for the first time, winning the international discourse right for the Chinese footwear industry; The confidence of the industry proves that China's footwear industry is not only a big producer, but also has a leading edge in technology."

Second, China’s footwear industry has developed rapidly in recent years and is not only satisfied with shoemaking. The status of big powers has also made great breakthroughs in technology and brands, many international brands have set up R&D bases in China, and China’s voice has gradually been valued by the world. Third, the Chinese National Standards Committee has made unremitting efforts and has been actively paying attention and participating in ISO/TC216. The work, especially since 2006, has sent personnel to participate in its international conference for four consecutive years, and has made a lot of preparations for this standard."
