Recently, Hydro has successfully developed a scrap aluminum recovery furnace at its aluminum rolling mill in Hamburg, Germany, aiming to develop natural resources and products in an innovative and efficient manner.

The aluminum scrap recovery furnace is 9 meters wide and can absorb a large amount of aluminum scrap and remelt it. The furnace is a double rake type and is currently the largest and most advanced model in its class. A total of 50,000 metric tons of scrap aluminum can be re-melted each year for further aluminum processing.

Compared with primary aluminum smelting, Hydro has estimated that the production of scrap aluminum remelting will reduce the annual CO2 emissions by 400,000 mt.
