Yu Mingjie Technology - Overview of pigments, reflective powder, copper powder, pearl powder, phosphor, aluminum silver paste, aluminum silver powder, glitter powder and other pearlescent pigments and their applications

Pearlescent pigment is a new type of powder pigment that reproduces the elegant luster and color of natural pearls, shells, butterflies, fish and metals. It is a kind of glossy pigment: non-toxic, odorless, acid and alkali resistant, non-flammable, non-explosive, non-conductive, non-migrating, easy to disperse, high heat resistance and weather resistance, and fully meets strict environmental requirements. The pearlescent pigment has the glittering effect of the metallic pigment, and can also produce the soft color of the natural pearl, and its glittering effect is passively illuminated, that is to say, the flashing effect is exhibited under the condition of receiving light.

The main types of pearlescent pigments are: natural fish scale pearlescent pigments, bismuth oxychloride crystal pearlescent pigments, and mica coated pearlescent pigments. At present, the most widely produced and widely used pearlescent pigments in the world are based on natural mica flakes (mica size from 4μm to 120μm and thickness of about 0.5μm), which is coated on the surface by special chemical processes. Multiple layers of titanium or other metal oxides.

Classification of pearlescent pigments

Silver white series pearl powder, iridescent series pearl powder (also called interference pearl powder), gold series pearl powder (also called pearl gold powder), coloring series pearl powder (also called color pearl powder) and mica iron series pearl powder. Each series has different specifications. Pearlescent pigments are based on the principle of natural pearls, using the refraction, reflection and transmission of light to reproduce pearly soft, elegant luster.

Principle of pearlescent pigment

Compared with other pigments, pearlescent pigments have an unparalleled effect on their unique soft pearl luster. The special surface structure, high refractive index and good transparency make it the same effect as pearl pearl in a transparent medium.

Pearlescent pigments are composed of a thin layer of methane coated with several metal oxides. Changing the thin layer of metal oxide produces different pearlescent effects.

The excellent chemical, thermal and mechanical properties of pearlescent pigments offer the potential for widespread use in paints, inks, plastics and many other applications. They provide a new color quality for these products. Pearlescent pigments are non-toxic and harmless to the human body. It can therefore be used for food packaging and children's toys. Dilute acids and bases do not erode pearlescent pigments. Pearlescent pigments are not harmful to the environment because they are practically insoluble in water and do not contain any heavy metals and are of a grade that is not harmful to water quality. Pearlescent pigments are not combustible, self-igniting, non-conductive, and can withstand temperatures up to 800 °C. Pearlescent pigments can also be used in reactive coatings for radiation curing systems (electron beam curing, photocuring). The chemical structure of pearlescent pigments gives them excellent dispersion properties and can be applied to waterborne coatings.

Characteristics of pearlescent pigments

Pearlescent pigments have excellent dispersibility and can be mixed into low-viscosity printing inks with a slight agitation. Since the pearlescent pigment is a layered structure, it can only be gently stirred when mixed with the ink to avoid strong mechanical treatment to prevent the surface of the pearl powder from being damaged.

• Density is about 3g/

• Chemical resistance Water, dilute acid, alkali, organic solvent

• Heat resistance, no change in temperature at 800 °C, no pyrophoric pigment

• Electrical performance, non-conductive

• Magnetic properties, non-magnetic

• Lightfastness is excellent

• Toxicity proved non-toxic by inspection by government authorities

• Oil absorption 90±20g/100g

Application of pearlescent pigments

Pearlescent pigments have been widely used in various fields, and can be used in automobiles, motorcycles, bicycle coatings, powder coatings, architectural coatings, pearlescent inks, pearlescent leathers, pearlescent plastic products, pearlescent cosmetics, and also in papermaking, printing and dyeing, printing, rubber, Ceramics and other industries. It is a new idea in the field of color, which can give your products a higher commodity value.

1. Application of pearlescent pigments in plastics:

Pearlescent pigments are used in clear and translucent plastic resins, and the use of pearlescent pigments provides a fascinating color vision. Generally, the better the transparency, the more the resin can fully exhibit the unique gloss and color effects of pearlescent pigments. For less transparent resins (PC/PVC, etc.), due to the processing characteristics of these resins, pearlescent luster and hue can be fully exhibited.

Pearlescent pigments are widely used in cosmetic containers, various types of packaging, toys, decorative materials, various films and other plastic products.

2. Application of pearlescent pigments in cosmetics:

Pearlescent pigments are made from natural mica, which is resistant to high temperatures and contains no toxins. It is fully in compliance with the International Food and Drug Administration Regulations (FDA) and is harmless to the human body and does not harm the skin or eyes. Diversified colors, convenient color matching, can be used to produce lipstick, eye shadow, foundation, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, nail polish, hair cream, moisturizer, hair spray and other cosmetics.

3. Application of pearlescent pigments in coatings:

Pearlescent pigments are widely used in the coatings industry because of their good dispersibility and good physical and chemical properties. No matter what kind of monochromatic paint is mixed with pearlescent pigments, it can become a pearlescent coating, and its pearlescent and metallic luster effects are impressive. Pearlescent coatings have been used in many fields such as automobiles, locomotives, daily necessities, and building materials "target=_blank> building materials.

Pearlescent pigments are sheet-like structures, so wetting is simple and rapid, but the polar surface of the system and the chemical nature of the medium or solvent need to be considered. The pearlescent pigment wafer is easily broken when dispersed, and usually the pearlescent pigment can be dispersed by simply stirring. If a dispersing machine is used, only a short time of mixing is allowed. It is recommended to pre-disperse the pulp and then add it to the paint.

4. Application of pearlescent pigments in printing inks:

Pearlescent pigments not only produce a pearlescent effect in the printing ink, but also maintain the original color tone, and can bring a variety of metallic luster effects and iridescent gloss effects. Yu Mingjie Pearlescent Pigment has been widely used in the printing industry and is commonly used in the printing of various packaging papers, magazines, advertising drawings, textiles and other items.
