PGI introduces new plastics that reduce car noise
The American Polymer Group (PGI) has introduced a new base material that can be applied to moldable automotive parts made from renewable materials to improve the acoustics of automobiles.
Made from renewable polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), this material is applied to the body and wheel well liners to create a barrier that absorbs sound from the car's cabin and reduces it. The noise is between 25~30%.
PGI has developed a special one-step production process that combines recycled materials with untreated materials to make the two materials a whole through lamination and acupuncture. The one-step process and the use of recycled materials here produce more cost-effective products.
The company also has the capabilities of original equipment manufacturers and Tier I regulated automotive suppliers to achieve the integrated color required in this process.
Color-specified face fibers ensure that climate and wear resistance meet the stringent requirements of all OEMs. UV protection aids can be used in the polymer to increase the body application area where sun exposure occurs. Introduced at the International Industrial Textiles Exhibition and Seminar (IDEA07) is a high-strength, lightweight material that varies between 25 ounces and 40 ounces. It is currently used in automobiles and is now available on the market.
Don Bokshan, director of automotive sales and marketing at PGI, said: "This new value-added base material is an innovative solution that meets the ever-increasing sound demands of all automotive types and automotive manufacturing. The acoustic performance that users expect, it is also an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional reinforced plastics, showing another advantage."
