Biological activated carbon has been used in many countries in the world for the treatment of polluted water sources, industrial wastewater treatment, and wastewater reuse. In practical applications, biological activated carbon shows the advantages of simple operation management, greatly extended use cycle of activated carbon and low operating cost.

In recent years, the biological activated carbon method has not only been used for deep purification of water supply, but also for advanced treatment of urban sewage and industrial wastewater and regeneration of water.

Immobilized biological activated carbon (IBAC) is activated carbon as a carrier, and artificially adsorbed on the surface of activated carbon to form a biofilm by using an adsorption carrier method. It has many advantages:

(1) The IBAC-based treatment unit has a good removal effect on the turbidity, permanganate index, LAS and bath odor in the sand filtrate. After treatment, these indicators can meet the requirements of the specification;

(2) It was confirmed by GC/MS that IBAC can effectively remove organic matter from bath water. Among them, IBAC influent contains five kinds of suspicious environmental secretory interfering ester compounds (PAEs). After IBAC treatment, three kinds are completely Removed, 2 kinds are partially removed;

(3) After backwashing, IBAC still has a good purification effect. The treatment of IBAC is mainly based on the degradation of microorganisms, and at the same time exerts the physical adsorption of activated carbon and the adsorption and purification efficiency of both;

(4) From the niche theory IBAC, the engineering bacteria can prolong the dominant flora on activated carbon because the domesticated engineering bacteria niche can be generalized.
