Japanese machine tool orders totaled 101.91 billion yen in February, up 1.6% from January, achieving the first month-on-month growth in three months, but down 22.5% from the same month last year, falling for the seventh consecutive month. The total order amount exceeded 100 billion yen for 30 consecutive months, but it did not exceed 110 billion yen for three consecutive months.
The domestic market in Japan is currently on the sidelines, and relevant industry players are also paying close attention to the impact and volatility of financial market development on the industry.
Domestic orders in Japan fell by 1.7% to 38.89 billion yen in January, a three-month decline for the third consecutive month; a decrease of 8.7% from the same month last year, the first year-on-year decline in two months. Domestic orders have not exceeded 40 billion yen for two consecutive months. In major industry sectors, industrial machinery orders increased by 2.9%, motor vehicle orders fell by 1.8%, orders for electronics and precision machinery increased by 2.9%, and orders for aviation, shipbuilding and transportation equipment fell by 41.2%.
Foreign trade orders increased by 3.9% to 63.02 billion yen from January, achieving the first month-on-month growth in three months, but down 29.1% from the same month last year. Orders fell for the ninth consecutive month.
In terms of the order area, Asian orders increased by 2.1% to 25.52 billion yen compared with January, down 50.7% from the same month last year. European orders increased by 18.5% to 16.79 billion yen, down 1.2% from the same month last year. Total North American orders fell 2.4% to a total of 20.01 billion yen, up 1.9% from the same month last year.
