Scientists at the Southern Ural State University in Russia are developing digital twin technology for electric drives, and their use in industry is expected to improve their competitive advantage. Related research results have been released at the Global Smart Industry Innovation Conference.

Nadezhda Kulova, a researcher at the school's "Digital Industry" Science Education Center, said that the basis of digital twin technology is a mathematical model that reflects the physical processes in an object, technology, or product. The electric drive is composed of mechanical parts, electromagnetic parts and converters. Each part has several models to make the digital twin as realistic as possible. Therefore, the digital model is composed of several parts, which have a good relationship with each other and with objects.

To establish the connection between the electric drive and the digital twin, the researchers used neural networks to quickly receive and process data. To obtain data about the physical state of objects, the Internet of Things (IoT) is used to collect information from the outside world with the help of wireless sensor networks and measurement systems.

The use of digital twin technology in industrial production will have a competitive advantage, because the data obtained will help predict the occurrence of equipment failures in advance, improve the reliability and safety of production, reduce the number of maintenance personnel required, and bring economic benefits.
