Sino-British cooperation develops a "battery" directly integrated into the fabric

<

The Graphene Center of the University of Cambridge in the UK and researchers from Jiangnan University in China have developed a functional energy storage element that can be directly integrated into the fabric. This achievement has laid the foundation for the development of wearable electronic products based on full fabrics, and is expected to be used in flexible circuits, medical care monitoring, energy conversion and other aspects. This achievement has been applied for a patent and published in the academic journal "Nanoscale".

The researchers suspended a single graphene sheet in a low-boiling solvent, which was easily removed after being deposited on the fabric, thereby forming a thin and uniform conductive network composed of multiple graphene sheets. The fabric covered by graphene and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) forms a capacitor that can store charge. The "battery" on this fabric is flexible and can withstand the washing cycles in ordinary washing machines.

Most other wearable electronic products are rigid electronic components mounted on plastics or textiles, have poor compatibility with skin, are easily damaged during washing and are not breathable, and have low comfort. This new type of textile electronic component can be directly coated on polyester fabric with a simple dyeing process, which is cheap, safe and environmentally friendly.
